    Supertom's Custom Thread

Now that I've dived head first into my first major custom (since I was like 9, tearing apart GI Joes and painting TMNT weapons) I figured I'd share my progress and start a thread for future customs. (and stop clogging the appreciate thread)

I present you... GROOT! in progress.

Nah, that's the great thing about Groot. He's taken so many different forms and been drawn so differently by various artists that it's really a personal take. I'm using the Bowen mini bust and his appearance in the early GoG run as a reference.

Dude! Can I pay you to cast that head for me? I can find an ent for the rest, but once that head is complete, he'll be a work of art!
Here's some reference that Brad walker made for me:

I'm looking in to casting some stuff. I'll let you know if I take the leap. Seems like a good way to avoid destroying other figures and preserving my original sculpts.

Groot Update! Can anyone think of something I can use for the belts and pouches in this scale?

Nothing gets destroyed in the casting process- you could cast a rare figure to sculpt over with no damage to the figure or it's paint even.

That Groot is sooo badass looking!

Update. Added rocker ankles (from his stumps) and a hinge/ball jointed neck (so he can look up while kneeling down). Another coat of primer and he should be ready for paint.

Thanks dude. I've been trying to figure out how exatcly I'd cast it. So many of his head branches twist and overlap eachother not sure how exactly you'd make a clean pull. I'm going to try my hand at casting on my next custom (hint, ryhms with Ruper Schmull) so we'll see what I learn from the process.

I guess you'd need a two part mold- not too crazy to do, it's just more rubber and more time to get it out (said the dominatrix to her submissive boyfriend).
